Rustic shiplap paired w/ distressed accent boards

Cabin Grade

Comprised of Factory Seconds, Overruns, and Culls, Cabin Grade materials are by far our most economical options in the warehouse. Allowed to have some missing knots and defects, Cabin Grade products are usually considered rustic and are best suited for folks who love character. (Think of it as a mix of No.2 & No.3 lumber.) We advertise 10-15% loss for culls. Don’t let a few bad boards scare you, Cabin Grade is one of our most popular options among DIYers and the get ‘er done crowd. Sometimes it even looks like No.1! We strive for transparency as Cabin Grade material arrives in the warehouse.

No.2 Select Knotty

The best of both worlds: Gorgeous character with minimal waste. Allowed to have slick and intact knots, No.2 products are a fan favorite in the warehouse. While often referred to as “Stain Grade” by big box outfits, No.2 products take both paint and stain well. Knots are known to bleed through paint over time, so some customers prefer clear lumber for painted applications.

Clear Lumber - D&Better v. C&Better

Character and rustic charm isn’t your vibe? No worries, we’ve got you covered. “Clear” refers to the number of (or lack of) knots in a board. Clear Lumber is often called "Paint Grade” or No.1 by big box dealers.

D&Better - Mostly Clear. Occasional small, tight knots. Typically 90% clear or more. Usually substantially cheaper than C&Better, allowing you to achieve the paint grade look without the true paint grade price point.

C&Better - 100% Clear, Free of all knots. No character, simply clean wood grains.
